Our Subsidiary - Blairtummock & Rogerfield Opportunities
Blairtummock Community Hall was incorporated as a company and registered as a charity in 2006. It was believed to be the best way of managing the Hall independently, efficiently, cost effectively and with the aspirations and needs of the community to the fore. The hall has and continues to be a great success.
Creation of Estate Caretakers Team
During 2014 the Association were keen to improve the delivery of Close Cleaning and Grounds Maintenance contracts. The period covered by these contracts was ending and it was a good time to evaluate whether the creation of a social enterprise to carry out the work could create added value for the community and improve the service to tenants and factored owners.
The Association began the process that would lead to the transformation of its subsidiary company “Blairtummock Community Hall” into “Blairtummock and Rogerfield Opportunities”. The purpose of this was to allow the subsidiary’s Board to add the oversight of a team of Estate Caretakers to its remit, with the aim of:
- Creating employment and training opportunities for local people, by
- Bringing Close Cleaning and Grounds Maintenance Contracts back into the group, and having Ad Hoc Works and Capital Works to backcourts completed by them
- The first employee started in July 2015, quickly joined by 2 Estate Caretakers and the final team members, our 2 Apprentices joined us in August 2016
Community Hall
The Community Hall provides a place where social activities and events can take place, local groups can meet, and other agencies can deliver services for the people of Blairtummock and Rogerfield.
The hall has a fully licensed bar and has been used for private functions since opening in 2006; including: christenings, communions, birthday parties and anniversary celebrations.
Our partners use the hall to deliver activities and work with the local community. The hall is hired by statutory organisations and the hire of the hall by external agencies ensures that prices can be kept affordable for local people and their families.
The construction and operation of the hall is an important element of the Association’s Community Regeneration work. The hall is overseen by Blairtummock and Rogerfield Opportunities the Association's charitable subsidiary.
